Breckenridge Mountain
Located approximately 100 miles west of the Denver airport (DEN), Breckenridge offers more than 2,000 acres of amazing ski terrain, with roughly 300 inches of snowfall per year. Twenty-seven lifts service Breckenridge, which is renowned as an advanced skier's mountain, although it functions equally well as an intermediate's paradise.
Ski tickets for Breckenridge are also valid at Arapahoe Basin and Keystone (including night skiing), and a percentage of any multi-day ticket (3 days or more) is also valid at Vail and Beaver Creek.
The Town of Breckenridge
Breckenridge was originally a mining community, which swelled into a booming town after the discovery of gold in 1859. Once the quest for gold faded, however, its residents moved on in search of new ventures and the population dipped to a mere 400. It wasn’t until 1961, when Breckenridge became a popular ski destination for thousands of visitors each year that the town grew and prospered again. Today, the now-historic buildings are home to fabulous restaurants, boutiques and other après ski hang-out spots. And a true vestige of the past still remains within one special building: the Gold Pan Saloon at 103 North Main, established during the 1859 gold rush, is one of Breckenridge’s original businesses and the oldest continuously-operating bar West of the Mississippi.
Breckenridge Lodging: Condo Rentals and Hotels
The now ski town of Breckenridge lies right along the base of the mountain, so that most of the lodging is close to the slopes (if they aren’t a ski-in/ski-out lodge). It is here you will find the most affordable prices on upper-scale properties packed with amenities such as condos with private hot tubs on your deck or consider some of the fabulously economical hotel rooms. And it’s not only the skiing that is conveniently close to your lodging-the dining and nightlife of the resort are also easily within reach.
